1967
On 1st February. 1967, 42 enthusiastic people, from Elizabeth Town to Burnie, met and formed the Devonport Lapidary Club. It consisted of 38 adults and 4 children. The first field trip was to Carrick. Members still regularly participate in field trips all over Tasmania, in search of various minerals & gemstones.

In the June of 1968 the club moved into a small room at the rear of Adult Education Department building, located in Wenvoe Sreet, Devonport.
1973
In 1973 a silversmithing course was held at the former club rooms, at a cost of $100 for a ten week course.
1975
In 1975 the Devonport Lapidary Club received a $3000 State Government grant to enable the club to start development of a separate workshop facility in the Adult Education Department’s carport. (Noise levels from grinders & saws created chaos for theatrette rehearsals & concerts.)
1977
In 1977 the Devonport Lapidary Club created their official logo/badge.
1978
In 1978 the Devonport Lapidary Club acquired a faceting machine from Don College and faceting instructions for members, finally commenced.
1995
In July 1995 after many weeks of hard work the members of the Devonport Lapidary Club finally opened at their second location – showgrounds, Gunn Street, Devonport.
2013
On 1st July, 2013, the Devonport Lapidary Club relocated to its third and present site – 31 Bay Drive, Maidstone Park, Spreyton.
(The official opening date – Friday 09th August, 2013)
This would not have been possible without the valuable assistance of Devonport City Council & the continued support of the Maidstone Park Management Authority Committee.
Members worked tirelessly to ensure the transition was a success.
2017
On 4th February, we celebrated the club’s 50th birthday with invited guests, past & present members & an open day, followed by a barbeque.
We continue to promote the unique arts of lapidary, silver-smithing & faceting of gemstones, to individuals, school & community groups.
Come along & join us …. learn a unique & rewarding craft …. we look forward to your visit !
