General Information
The Devonport Lapidary Club (D.L.C.) is made up of people who share a passion for rocks and gemstones and what they can do with them. We have a variety of workshops days, which include general lapidary, faceting or silver smithing. Occasionally we hold speciality days for learning different skills like wire wrapping, and other associated crafts.
We are located at 31 Bay Drive, Maidstone Park, Spreyton.
Annual Fees
Our annual fees are $35.00 for single adult (over 16), and $50.00 for a family (2 adults and their children under 16). They are reduced if less than a full year remains.
Fees are due at 1st of July each year and must be paid no later than 2 months after this date.
Workshops and Fees
The club is open on Monday 5pm-9pm, Fridays & Saturdays 9am to 3pm (except public holidays),
for faceting, general lapidary and silver smithing. The fees are $6.00 for the day & the junior fee is $2.00.
These fees cover the costs of most machines, water and tools etc. Experienced members are available during these times and will gladly share whatever knowledge they have.
There are rocks available from the club for a small fee, depending on the piece.
Meetings
Our club meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month, except January (no meeting) and public holidays, at 7:00pm at the clubrooms. All members are welcome and any club matters can be discussed at this time.
Field Trips
Field trips to different parts of the state to collect rough gemstone material are usually held each month, weather permitting. Details of dates and contacts are available from the club.
Other Events
We have working displays of some of our crafts and also sell items that have been produced during the year at scheduled working bees.
We organise a ‘Jewellery, Gem & Mineral Fair’ at the East Devonport School gymnasium, in March, each year.
In late November, early December, we have our Christmas get together at a local venue.
Also during the year we may have a garage sale or other suggested events.
